The world of Web writing is in turmoil. The American company Open AI created ChatGPT. Already on the market for a few years, the application improves with the seasons. It is now likely to supplant professional writers on the Internet. Nonsense! This Artificial Intelligence is richly documented and extraordinarily prompt.

However, it requires an experienced person to supervise its work or even take it over. While it cannot replace a writer, it can be very useful…

ChatGPT is a computer program designed to write. You just need to subscribe to access its features. It’s even free for the basic version! For about $20 a month, the paid option includes other tools. For example, Canva, a graphic tool, can be associated with it to create complete communication documents.

Curriculum Vitae, brochures, internship reports become accessible to all users. 

The mechanism is simple: 

As soon as a prompt is given, it analyzes it and provides an appropriate response in a few seconds. For example: “Please, can you give me a summary of Madame Bovary?” Immediately, a presentation of the author, the work, and a brief analysis appear.  

The courtesy formula is not essential, but it suggests a polite exchange. You never know… 

The software provides all kinds of writings: emails, letters, reports, essays, articles, speeches... It can also categorize, summarize, explain, comment, find ideas. It knows several languages, including French. 

This feat is possible thanks to the advances in Artificial Intelligence.  

ChatGPT has amassed a large amount of data. This comes from various documents published on the web. The robot compiled this mass of elements. It retrieves them using algorithms, these increasingly complex mathematical calculations.

An exchange is established during which the user provides clarifications. These refine the process and improve the result. 

ChatGPT is not really a writing professional

Even though this Artificial Intelligence is very effective, it lacks humanity… That’s the whole problem! 

• The information is not always reliable. The sources are not cited. Depending on the version used, they may prove outdated.  

• Insensitive, devoid of affection, it does not express feelings. The texts lack warmth and empathy. Addressing this flaw requires a tremendous deployment of energy and a complete overhaul. What a waste of time! 

• The texts are repetitive, hollow, with no strong ideas. They lack substance. This is normal; a machine does not distinguish the essential from the secondary. In the end, if the reading is tedious, people abandon it. It’s counterproductive.  

• The program never questions itself. It systematically responds. If the request is poorly expressed, it does not perceive the anomaly. It does not adapt. The robot does not detect humor, insinuations, hidden references… It considers only raw data. It sometimes confuses meanings. This is annoying! 

• Finally, for those who plan to delegate all their writing tasks to the software: Beware! Relying on this practice is detectable. The French company Compilatio, specialized in creating anti-plagiarism software, knows how to unmask impostors. It already equips universities that track cheaters among their students. It just wants to expand its clientele… 

This Artificial Intelligence ally of the web writer

ChatGPT is defined as a tool. Recall the definition of this word proposed by the Larousse dictionary: “Element of an activity that is only a means, an instrument.” In other words: if one does not know how to write, the result will not be great! The application is intended to be a support, a must-see aid. It is imperative not to let oneself fall behind progress, or else one regresses. Being curious seems more judicious. This Chatbot optimizes the work of a specialist, it increases their responsiveness. It allows you to:

• Quickly find information to write an article even if it needs verifying,
• Classify data, 
• Indicate a direction for approaching a topic, simplify a concept to facilitate understanding, • Suggest a plan or gather scattered information in one place. 

You can delegate some tasks to this super assistant. Entrusting it with the total writing of a text seems risky. The accuracy of the information disseminated is not guaranteed.

It requires rigorous control. The same one applied to an intern in training.  

What motivates a web writer? To immerse oneself in a universe and discover its intricacies. Then comes the time for writing… Isolating oneself to find an original angle.

Inventing the text, correcting it, refining it, imbuing it with one’s style.

Finally optimizing it for the web, retouching another paragraph and submitting the work for reading… ChatGPT is indeed an interesting innovation. However, it cannot replace a human, experience the pleasure of creation. It doesn’t even know what that is…
